Starter Home American Style - Poway, California:
There was one thing Liesa really wanted to get out of her American adventure - a house.
When the opportunity presented itself she took on the project in the same manner other people buy a hamburger - with no thought it could be difficult.
At the time she spoke no English, she had never seen a 2x4 and would not have guessed what it might be. She also had no concept of knowing feet and inches because she was brought up and educated in the metric system. So she simply designed the house and drew the blueprint on the kitchen table using the metric system. Now she converted with a calculator the metric measurements to the American measurements of feet and inches. The numbers came out extremely odd. So she redrew the entire blueprint reconciling the two measurement systems into a more logical spacing.
The new house had to be a certain size to meet the CC & R’s requirements. To make it small was not even an option.
It had to be a large elegant custom home within a very limited budget.
Liesa was the architectural designer, builder, general
contractor, pool designer, landscaping designer and
interior designer. She built the home in six months
and lived in it for six years.
When she went to Germany in 1991 the house was put up for rent. Fred McGriff and his wife Veronica were looking for a suitable house to rent while Fred was playing first base for the Padres baseball team in San Diego. They looked at ten houses, selected Liesa’s home and moved in with their baby son Eric.

Liesa's experience in building her Poway custom home lead to her passion for high end real estate, home design and construction. Her second construction project was a hilltop custom home in the Pacific Northwest. Based on the speedy learning process of the initial custom built home the second home turned out to be a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. Liesa studied real
estate at the Mycut School in Seattle and became a licensed real estate agent in 1991.
